Universiti Teknologi MARA Consultancy Unit (RMI) began its humble footing as a division under Research Management Institute (RMI), a UiTM research umbrella, by embarking its first activity in 1983.

In tandem with the pace of UiTM as university, UiTM Consultancy Unit (RMI) expanded its operations fast, covering government agencies, private companies, statutory bodies and foreign companies.

Since its inception, UiTM Consultancy Unit (RMI) has been trusted to manage diverse activities like professional services, project management, material testing and maintenance, course development, market and product survey and  knowledge transfer programme

The success of the unit is has increased steadily to about 300 projects a year with an average income generated at about RM12 million a year between 2006 and 2011.

Corresponding to the increase in demand, the number of active consultants from diverse skills has exceeded 500 people who are renowned in niche areas like the green technology and sustainable development, frontier materials and industry applications, advanced computing and communications, humanities and qualities of life, forensic sciences and brain and neuroscience.

After more than 20 years of operation, UiTM Consultancy Unit (RMI) dedicate its success to the following factors:

  • the good governance of operation and fund management by staff and Board of Trustees
  • ability to meet industry demands by multidisciplinary collaboration of broad disciplines under one roof
  • ability to meet the changing needs of the industries
  • strong supports and gooming from the industries
  • sound financial supports from the university

After 10 years of active participation in the industries, UiTM Consultancy Unit (RMI) has developed wide client-based, which include big organizations such as TESCO, SPAD, CARREFOUR, SIRIM, MOSTI, KETTHA and MAHB.  UiTM Consultancy Unit (RMI) is ready to embark on a larger scale project and look forward to more future collaboration with the existing or new customers.
